Knitty KAL

Progress!

I'm making slow progress on my Knitty projects. Shedir is on the left, and Clapotis is on the right. I haven't figured out how to cable without a cable needle, so I think that might be slowing me down on Shedir. Clapotis is coming along; I'm on the straight rows, and dropping the stitches is a lot of fun! It does slow down, though. It's been so much fun to watch everyone else's progress! And to think, a new knitty will be out soon for more KAL fun!

A Sheldon named Demetri

Here is my first finished Knitty project; Sheldon, who was completed for an amigurumi swap.

He was dubbed "Demetri" by a customer. Not sure why. I'll let you know when I find out.

I hope to get back to work on my Lizard Ridge or

my Mrs. Beeton's next month.

But it would also be fun to start something new!

Blueberry Twist Baby Cardigan

I love Tangerine Twist, but didn't have time to make it this summer. So I adapted it for a smaller project--a baby sweater! It's a fun, easy stitch pattern and I enjoyed knitting it up. Details are on my blog.

Finished Fetching!

Two delayed flights didn't hear complaints from me, 'cause they allowed me to complete the pair of Fetchings that I started at the Stitch n Pitch. I'm enjoying the summer, but won't complain once the weather has cooled down and I'm able to wear them! (I already have a request for another pair, too!)

Here's my Wisp in progress, posed with flowers that I picked yesterday at the farm I belong to. The yarn is Filatura di Crosa Baby Kid Extra. I like the simple elegance of this pattern and have a feeling I will be making more as gifts.

This is a wonderful pattern. Not so hard that you can not have a conversation or watch tv while knitting. I used a 100% mercerised Cotton. The pattern and especially the cast on row held up quite well. Used almost all of 2 skeins.

Yarn: Jaeger - Aqua Cotton - Color 329 Salvia

Needle: 5 Size 2 Brittany dp's

Shedir - Finished!

I finished Shedir yesterday. It wasn't difficult, just a bit time consuming and cabling without a cable needle is necessary to move this project along. It's well worth it to learn the technique. The hat looks particularly nice with the Rowan Felted Tweed. I recommend the pattern to anyone who likes trying out some intensive cabling. For more information, see my blog post.

Next up for the KAL, I'll start Ester within the next two months.

Fetching is Catching!

I decided to take a break from Isabella to work on begin Fetching at the Mets/Braves Stitch n Pitch. Fun pattern, fabulous game! Isn't it a riot that knitters/crocheters/etc have a social networking site, meet at public sporting events, and will do just about anything anywhere to celebrate our crafts?! Love it!

I'm diligently working on Isabella still, but no photos to show progress yet. I'm currently on vacation in Colorado, and things are hairy crazy out here. I'm knitting while driving from geo-cache to geo-cache, and then again a little bit before I crash into bed at night. I estimate that I'm about half-way done with the back (1/4 done!). I'm using Knit Picks Shine Sport in Apple Green with Number 2 needles. Wow! I never thought I'd knit a sweater with my sock needles! I have to admit that if I'd read a little closer what size needles were to be used (the pattern called for size 3s), I might have chosen a different project. Still, I love how it's coming out so far.

My fabulous angel of a neighbor helped me to finish a lining in my sueet suede bag. (I'm worthless with a sewing maching and have no patience for hand sewing... go figure. But here is the finish product. I love it! We added a little rosette to the front for a little extra piz-azz!

For my second Knitty project, may I present completed Pomatomus! (I thought it would never happen!). Really nice fitting, beautifully designed socks, but a quick knit - not! Others may think differently, but I was challenged. Worth every minute (hour) though. For another photo, and more info, check out my blog.

This may be my last Knitty project for awhile, but I will be watching everyone's progress and contribution to this KAL. And, I'll be back....

I have finished my first project for the Knitt KAL. My Sweetpea socks is done. I really enjoyed the pattern and I like the socks. This pair is for my Swedish Sock Swap Pal, but I think I will knit another pair for my self someday. Right now am I back on my Clapotis. I started with it but didn`t like the choice of yarn, so I ripped it up again, and will cast on with another yarn.

Christmas in July!

My first project with this KAL is "Leo" by Kristi Porter, from the Fall '04 issue. This is a sweater for my adult son. He indicated that he liked the pattern when he was home a few months ago. He asked for a machine washable navy blue version. So - this is knit from Faulk, by Dale of Norway, meeting all the specs. Only thing left is to determine if it fits. We'll know that on December 25th. Yes, my first Christmas gift is completed! I started it on July 4th, so it was a relatively quick project. A little boring at times, but what do you expect with that much ribbing!!

Hi everybody. I can't believe I almost forgot to post my monkey socks here now. I had a couple of things going on since I signed up for this KAL. So here they are, my version of Cookie's monkey socks.

They turned out a little to small for me, so they are going to Germany to my sister. She is way overdue for some new socks from me. For my size I would have had to add on another repeat. I did both the heel and the toes with the short row, which is just my preferred method of doing my socks.

Don't know what will come next, but I'll find something.

I might be the farthest behind in our KAL! I am working on Clapotis, but I haven't been able to give it my exclusive focus. I am hoping to finish it by Christmas. Here's a picture of my work-in-progress. I am pleased so far! I hope this KAL doesn't disappear too fast - everyone here is making such quick progress!

Tiger Monkeys Stalking the Wild Passion Fruit

As soon as those Tiger Monkeys were off the needles, they leapt off to stalk their prey. I caught up with them at the border. They were, apparently, climbing over the fence...managed to get themselves all tangled up in the passion fruit vines.

In the first picture, you see them frozen like deer in the headlights. Notice the tiger pattern...completely unplanned and unprovoked. I knit one sock after the next with utter disregard for symmetry. In the second pic, they seem to be making a run for it.

Calorimetry and Fetching

I've started and finished Calorimetry and Fetching this week. I love the pattern for Fetching and will definitely be making some more of these as gifts for Christmas.

My Calorimetry was knitted in the leftovers from a hank of Debbie Bliss Maya (the multicoloured part) and finished with leftover 100% wool Celtic Aran. I wasn't sure how this would work out but I'm pleased with the finished result.

My Fetchings were made using Jaeger Merino Aran with a scraps of lilac mohair/wool mix aran. I used the lilac aran as a contrast as I didn't think the one ball of Jaeger I had would be enough and I'm glad I did as I've just the tiniest bit of the Jaeger leftover.

Tiger Monkeys

Pattern: "Monkey" by Cookie A - Winter 2006
Yarn: skacel "Trampoline - stretch"
Color: Tiger
Needles: Size "0" (2mm)

This pattern is such a fast knit! The yarn...welllllll...it has integrity. It's name - stretch - is spot on. This is some wildly stretchy, bouncy yarn. Monkey's stitch pattern sort of gets lost at a distance. But they are coming out very cool. I do believe I'm going to have to wrestle my 13 year old granddaughter for this pair!

I love knitty.com, especially all the free sock patterns. I have just finished 'vog on and loved the pattern. I made a few mods, i knit them toe-up, but don't like the cast on specified,so did a short-row toe, I also didn't like the original heel (i now know that there was a mistake in the pattern) so ripped back and did my normal short-row heel. I am really pleased with them and would definitely knit them again (this time attempting the corrected heel, but sticking withe short-row toe). These are going to be sent of to my Hogwarts sock swap pal.

Like so many of us, I'm working on several Knitty projects at once. First up is Isabella that I'm actually just trying to finish. Here it is in blocking mode. Some time this week I'm hoping to stitch up the sides and add the little edging to the sleves.

(Apparently I'm having issues with my photos coming out in the right direction. Bare with me here...)

Next up is the Sueet Suede bag that I finished knitting up this weekend. What a great weekend project... it went by very quickly. However, instead of using the suede I chose to use Malva (a ribbon yarn) in yellow, brown, and green tones. I think it turned out nicely. Now I'm thinking of making a trip to the fabric store to pick out a corrdinating yellow fabric to line it with and bring out more of the yellow in the yarn. I'm not all that hip on the sewing end of things, so this will be a challenge for me. I recomend this project for anyone who is looking for a quick hand made gift. It would be great to give filled with all sorts of pampering goodies.

And now I've begun working on the French Market Bag that someone else on here is also working on. I decided to work with Patons wool since I did my first felting project with it and it felted so easily. This is only my second felting project and I'm still a little worried about how it will turn out. I figured working with cheaper yarn would be ok for experimenting now.

School's in session

I cast on for Isabellas this weekend and so far, so good. Had a few challenges with gauge and sizing, but decided to drop two needle sizes (2.75) and knit the L. I am knitting with a bamboo yarn; I think it will have a nice drape, but will indeed need some blocking. Do any of you have experience using bamboo fiber? I did a few rows on the subway to work this morning, so hence the school books in the background. Apologies for the less than fabulous photo.

I can't wait to see (and be inspired by!) all of your creations!

Now I'm on my way with the Zodiac. But I have done some changes, I think it will be more convenint to have it open in one side, and added some more stitches for the buttonholes. And as I not is doing it on circular neeedes, I just as well thought I could knitt in the motif. Well, there is another change from the pattern, I decided to not have the zodiac sign, I wanted something bigger. Hope those changes not will disqualify me from the KAL?

Wisp and a Baby Twist

I've got Wisp from the summer 07 Knitty on the needles right now; I should take a new picture as it's further along than in this one. I'm also adapting Tangerine Twist for a baby cardigan. I'm calling it Blueberry Twist.

My next Knitty project will be Fetching. I bought some Berrocco Ultra Alpaca for it last fall but never had time to knit it. I want to be wearing my warm red Fetchings this fall!

I am currently working on "Leo" and "Pomatomus". I hope to make "Bristow" in the not too distant future. Also, after recently finishing a pair of "Breeze", I have another pair on my waiting list, destined to be a gift for my mom.

Hi ~ I'm Dawn and I'm looking forward to being apart of this group. I've been knitting for the past 6mos and I love a challenge.

I've started on Knitty's Fetching but could use some motivation, encouragement and support. My oldest dd has finished 2 pairs and started another. LOL I've confidence that I will get mine done too. I've also selected "Cozy" for a prayer shawl exchange which will definitely be a challenge for me but I think I can handle it especially with a little help from some knitting friends. ;D

Cable Net

I sure hope someone else decides to make a pair of Cable Net socks. Last night was swatch night. Man o man. I didn't think I was a real loose knitter...but that gauge (10/in) on 0's (2mm)! I got down to 9/in on 00's (1.75mm). Wouldn't be so bad if my yarn wasn't splitty, but, it is. HA! Anyhoo...if anyone else has made them, I'd love to hear! If anyone else is planning on making them...holler!

Hi everyone. I'm very excited about this knitalong.

I have a long knitty 'to do' list. I'm planning on knitting a few pairs of socks - breeze, bmp, monkey (again), hedera and pomotomus.

I'm on a bit of a stash busting mission at the moment so I'm planning on knitting calorimetry, kate, fetching and wisp.

There are also lot's more knitty projects I'd love to make.
I can't wait to get started and see everone elses projects.

Hmmm... this KAL may never end... its such a good idea!
Just dropping by to say hello. Im also working on Zodiac. I've been trying to nail it down since it arived in Knitty. I've cast on and frogged several times...For some reason the baby is eating my brain and the ability to read a pattern correctly has escaped me. I probabbly will be casting on again tonight. I'm using Cotton-Ease from Lion's Brand in Lake (blue) and Lime (um... green).

I want to get to make Sheldon soon. I think that will be my next project... that is if Zodiac ever gets done....

My blog is: Twin Monkey Arts... I dable in a buncha stuff so dont freak if knitting isnt the first thing thats up there. I'm a soon to be Mom (a boy due in October) and I'm typically found on the Knitty Chatroom, and I'm formerly known as Heart of Life in the room, and on the boards...

Just want to say hello to everybody in this KAL. I'm really looking forward to follow all the wonderful things you will do, and hope to be able to contribute with some lines and photos now and than. I just hope my poor English not will scare everybody away from my posts :-)? As far as I can see on the list, I'm the only not English-speaking here. I am a very entusiastic but not very experienced knitter from Sweden. I would love to see you in my blog, if you want to know more about me.

Well, I must say, I'm VERY excited for this KAL to finally get started! I just got done tagging everyone's posts with the projects they are planning on doing. I thought it would be helpful to be able to see who else is making what you are! We have a couple people knitting Calorimetry, a bunch of people knitting Isabella and a couple more doing the Monkey socks, then the rest are scattered among various projects throughout Knitty.

I guess I should finally get around to telling everyone what I plan on knitting =) I have cast on and done a row or two of Wisp and I can't wait to get started on it! I'm also working on the Monkey socks, as most people are =)

Other than that, I've been knitting for about a year and a half and I just recently got into the blogging world and I LOVE it! Hope everyone enjoys the KAL and I can't wait for it to get started -- we have almost 40 knitters!!! =)

Thanks for this KAL! I have a big fat Knitty list, and sorely need a butt-kicking robot to motivate me. Here's some of the stuff on my list: Tulip Toes, in my handspun, for my dear old friend's grandbaby, and Monkey, in Regia Bamboo, for me. Calorimetry, in my handspun, for me. Breeze, in I'm not sure yet. Cable net in one of the wonderful things in my stash...maybe a Schaefer - Anne or a Fleece Artist that I've been holding for the perfect project. And Sweetpea. And I'm not sure what to use for that.

All I have to say, at this point, this evening, after making Blackberry Sourdough with Walnuts, is WHOO HOO! I can't wait for this to start!!!!

I have to say, I haven't been this excited about a knitting project in a long time! This is my first KAL, and I've actually convinced my mother to join me! She isn't very tech savvy, so I'll be including her progress in my posts. My mother, Christina, will be knitting Cinxia as a Christmas gift for a family member. I will be knitting be Candy for myself and knowing me, probably frog it three times in the process. My mother and I just came back from the yarn store, and we can't wait for the 21st! The first is a sweater for my daughter for Christmas the Double Scoop and the second are a cute pair of Twinktoes also for my daughter. Basics of the KAL =)

So, just in case there are other newbies to the knit-a-long world, I figured that I'd stick up a little post about how the whole thing works. I will stop allowing new additions to the KAL on July 20th -- which is in 9 days -- and then everyone can start posting pictures and whatever else they'd like to put up here about their progress on their Knitty projects. Of course, you can always post on your blog as well, this is just a nice way to get some support. I know I'm always a little doubtful of how my knitting looks, so it's nice to get the encouragement from others!

Anyways, I'm not sure how then ending of the KAL will go. Probably once everyone has completed at least one Knitty project, I'll start a blog for the Knitty KAL 2, or something like that.

Well, other than that, I'm not too sure what else to add in! Please let me know if I left anything out, or if you have ideas of a better way to do it! Take care everyone and enjoy your Hump Day =)

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with for the KAL. I'm a little tech slow, but I'm trying to learn all this blog stuff to stay connected to all my cyber knitting friends. I've loved Knitty for the past couple of years, and while I'm crazy enough to do this with MS3 going on in my life as well, I'm very much looking forward to hearing about all the great projects everyone else is planning on doing!

Hi Everyone,

I'm thrilled to have found this KAL - no time limit, many patterns! I'll be knitting COZY which I bought the yarn for well over a year ago and even sprung for the yarn called for in the pattern! Hopefully it will be complete for those cool August-September nights. I've got Sockapaloooza socks to finish first...looking forward to watching everyone's projects.

I am excited that people are finding this KAL! I have decided to do Bristow. I love Aran style and have designed a couple. I decided to spin the yarn for this cardigan in a Sapphire blue roving that I dyed. I should have it spun and ready by the start date. Debora

Hello all!

I am currently knitting a Soleil tank, and hope to have it done by the time that the KAL officially kicks off. I have yarn ready for Coachella, so that will be my initial project. I have loads of knitty patterns on my to-do list, so I hope that this KAL sticks around for a long time!

Greetings all! I'm looking forward to this KAL; thanks for putting it together, Maddie. I think that I'll be knitting Isabella with some Stella bamboo yarn. I've never worked with the fiber before, but just purchased some and am not happy with the project I started so time to frog that and begin again. A confession: I'm not a very religious swatcher, but perhaps that will change...

Can't wait to see all your fabulous projects!

Hey everyone! I'm kind of new to the whole on-line knitting community. I've just reciently created my own blog site found here. I'm still trying to figure it all out. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear from you. I signed up for a swap event and was ironically paired with Maddie. It turns out that we actually live on the same street (well, kind of. If you know anything about Arlington VA you know what I mean.) and I saw that she was starting this KAL. What a great idea! Usually at least one of my current projects comes from Kitty. In fact, currently, I've done all the knitting for the Lizard Ridge but still need to take on the process of sewing it together (aurgh) and I just finished the pieces for Isabella but it needs to be blocked out and then put together. I'm also half completed with a special little something from Knitty for Maddie, but I won't tell just yet. I'm also thinking of working on Sueet Suede. I just got some great fun ribbon yarn that I think might look great as a trendy little bag. I can't wait to see what everyone else is going to make! Maybe it'll give me a few more ideas of what will be next on my list of knits-to-do.

Hi, my name is Pamela. I'm knitting in Austin, TX - I live and work here as well, but most will just tell you I knit! I'm pleased to see this knit along! I've fallen in love with the Tahoe sweater and even started it. I've got so many projects going that I've kind of lost my way. I'm going to use this blog to keep me on task with this project. I also have two more Knitty projects on deck. Won't get to those until this one is complete.

I'll post pictures later of my sweater in progress. I need to dig it out of the 'in progress' pile and get out the camera. I'll also share the spec's - what I'm knitting with etc.

Preparation

This week, I went shopping for yarn in preparation for two Knitty projects. It's a nice surprise that I stumbled upon this KAL. I've wanted to make Shedir for awhile, and I bought the yarn for it this week as I already got the needles for it. I found I wanted to make Ester soon so I got yarn for it almost impulsively, need some needles. I knit a lot of Knitty patterns actullyy. Right now, I'm finishing my second Monkey Socks and making a Swell-like hat. Well, I look forward to participating. I blog at aquatique.net by the way. Have a good time preparing.

This KAL is great. I hope we can spread the word a little more, so we'll get more participants by the time it closes. Knitty has so many great patterns so offer and I'm sure almost everyone that heard about the website has already knitted one or two of the designs. There is really something for everyone whether you are a beginner or a pro. I just finished the Monkey socks from Cookie A. but I guess I should not show them off until the KAL officially starts. I also just printed out Shedir and Heart. Those patterns have been around for a while and I have no idea why nobody thought about this KAL sooner. May I suggest we keep it open for sign ups longer and do it like the one Fair Isle KAL that ended up going on and on instead of ending after a month? That would be nice.

So let's see if we can add a couple more members to the list and then get knitting.

French Market Bag

Timing is everything.
Yesterday I printed out the pattern for the French Market Bag and today I found out about this KAL.
So I'm all set - the yarn is being taken from my stash and everything.
Can't beat that!
Sometimes life works out just as it should.
Let's just hope I don't screw this up.
I can't wait to see what everyone else chooses!

I haven't decided what to knit quite yet, but I know that everyone can find something on there that you'd love to knit, but haven't found the right reason to do it. Well, here it is!

See it! Look around, find something that you love and post on here what you've decided.

Love it! And made sure you let us know how much you love it in your first post when you let us know what you've decided to make.

Find it! Get the perfect yarn, the needles you love the most and any notions that you may need.
